You are here : Unit Liaison Visits / Visit Report RAF Boulmer
RAF Boulmer recently played host to a team from the RAF Families Federation (RAF FF) as part of their programme of inaugural visits to key RAF stations across the country. The team was keen to meet with as many Station staffs, serving personnel and their families as they could during their visit and made the most of their time on the Station.
Following a very pleasant evening hosted by OC Support Wing, OC PMS and the Chief Clerk, Jenny Ward and Colin Jones began their visit by delivering a formal presentation to the Station Commander and members of her Exec staff. The rest of the morning was spent with OC PMS, who ensured that the team was kept busy with a comprehensive programme which included meeting family members in the Officers’ Mess and the Coffee Shop; a visit to the HIVE to discuss local issues with the HIVE Information Officer and windscreen tours of the Service Family Accommodation estate, as well as the Operations Site.
After lunch, the RAF FF was delighted to be invited to have a tour of the Control and Reporting Centre (CRC), and enjoyed a very informative briefing from the Operations and Training Staff on duty. Colin Jones, a former Aerospace Systems Manager/FC himself, then delivered a briefing in the School of Fighter Control to a cross section of personnel from around the station. Following the presentation, personnel were given the opportunity to ask questions and raise issues. Two of the issues drawn to the Federation’s attention were problems with access to local childcare facilities and postings.
As the Federation is still in its first year, the team was keen to inform personnel of their role, their independence from the RAF and the unrivalled opportunity it gave families to have their concerns heard at senior RAF and Ministerial level. Indeed, during their meetings with the families it was clear to the Federation team that many were still frustrated about the standard of customer service they received from some areas of Defence Estates and Modern Housing Solutions (MHS), although there was praise for the staff working in the Housing Information Centre (HIC) at York. The team noted these issues as part of their evidence-gathering work and encouraged individuals to formally record their concerns on the confidential Issue Report Form on the Federation website Click here
The RAF Families Federation would like to thank the Station Commander and her team for arranging such a worthwhile and informative visit and look forward to returning to the Station in the future.
