BBC1 One Show very own 'Street Barber' visits RAF Marham tonight (Fri 3 Feb) at 7pm. Celebrity hairdresser to the rich and famous Michael Douglas, whose style is to chat to his ‘clients’ about their occupations whilst performing the haircuts gave RAF personnel a chance to talk about their roles. Personnel who went under his scissors were a Tornado pilot, an Imagery Analyst and an Armourer
Brothers Colin and Ewan McGregor follow up their documentary The Battle of Britain with a film exploring Bomber Command, a rarely-told story from WW2. The programme on BBC One at 9pm, Sun 5 Feb 12, focuses on the men who fought and died in the skies above occupied Europe, with examples of individual heroism and extraordinary collective spirit, and Colin learns to fly the Lancaster bomber
The Residential Support Scheme provides help with the accommodation costs of learners aged 16 and over, who need to live away from home to study because their course is not available locally. The MoD have worked with the Young People Learning Agency and the Department for Education to address an existing unfairness for those serving overseas and have now secured an agreement to make them eligible for RSS
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity is working in partnership with American charity Fisher House Foundation and Help for Heroes. Mike Hammond said: "The QE Hospital is the primary receiving unit for all injured British military personnel and so families can travel many miles to be with their loved one. The Fisher House will be a ‘home from home’ for families to stay in at a very difficult and stressful time
Periodically in RAF News the Federation uses the evidence someone has provided to illustrate a topic of concern. The cases illustrate where policy is deemed as not quite fair or is outdated, or where there is disadvantage purely because that someone is a member of an RAF family. This time we feature a lady who has accompanied her husband on an overseas posting but now feels isolated and abandoned by the RAF. She says they were ill-prepared for the challenges that faced them and didn't realise how difficult it all would be
ITV has commissioned a new six part drama about the battles fought by wives and girlfriends of those serving in Afghanistan. Executive Producer Kieran Roberts said: “SWAGS is an emotional and heart-wrenching drama about the women who fight their own battles while their loved ones are risking their lives. Seeing how these remarkable women cope with survival, triumph, love and loss will make compelling viewing
